>> Summary and Impressions of the viennergy 2008

Preface

Cities will play a dominant role in combating global warming and securing the energy supplies required to meet our increasing energy service demands. The implementation of the politically agreed restructuring of our energy and infrastructure systems in energy cities require a unique mission, realistic goals, active networking and transformation processes and the willingness to restructure energy cities. Intelligent energy and infrastructure systems and innovative technologies both on the energy production side as well as in the consumer households will help to redesign the energy generation and consumption patterns while also considering the cultural context.

As a pioneer in renewable energies and in innovative and participative energy planning Vienna demonstrates, how complex energy models can lead to realistic and consensual solutions. Today, the political awareness in this respect is enormous and the positioning of energy cities is taking place now. Vienna has all that’s required to do so and viennergy 2008 is one of the instruments along this way.

Viennergy 2008 is a forum for innovative urban energy planning. Besides the classical “ex-cathedra” presentations there will be active discussion workshops and for the partner cities, a world café type round table will allow the participants to exchange and interlink their know-how and experience.
